Here at Camp Grenada Construction, you can spend 10 days physically practicing home maintenance repairs alongside our qualified construction assessor. Learning how to save money on home maintenance, odd jobs and repairs, by simply doing them yourself and not having to wait on another individual or tradesman to do it for you.

Painting techniques, Workshop-based learning
Tutor-led practical session showing/discussing the tools and equipment used to transfer and paint designs, using the correct techniques and how to set up your work area.

Be able to transfer and paint designs to prepared surfaces
Be able to set up and maintain a clean and safe working environment

Electrics, Workshop-based learning
​Tutor-led practical session showing/discussing the tools and equipment used to install one-way lighting circuits. using the correct techniques and how to set up your work area.

Learning outcomes:
Be able to recognise health and safety requirements for testing
Be able to select the correct instrument types to be used
Be able to carry out tests on sample circuits, achievements and ensure completion of any outstanding issues. clear and clean away

Activities:

Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to installing one-way lighting circuits

Select materials required to install one-way lighting circuits

Select tools and equipment required to install one-way lighting circuits

Install one-way lighting circuits to given specifications

3 one-way circuit singles two lamps, 3 cable stripping, 4 terminations. onsite guide.
Plumbing, Workshop-based learning
​Tutor-led practical session showing/discussing the tools and equipment used to carrying out general repairs yourself, using the correct techniques and how to set up your work area.

Learning outcomes:
Be able to connect pipes and fittings to appliances
Be able to re-build a toilet system
Be able to re-build a kitchen sink
Be able to re-build a bath & basin
Be able to select tools and equipment required for connecting pipes and fittings to appliances

Activities:
After demonstration by tutor, select tools and PPE, set up safe area to work, then use tools in conjunction with correct PPE.

Work with push-fit connectors and pipes when fitting to appliances.

Assemble toilet system from the beginning to completion, and connect to the mains and check for any leaks. (rectify if needed).

Dismantle taps and sink from base unit then reassemble then connect to the mains and check for any leaks. (rectify if needed).

After assembling u-bend trap and taps connect the complete bath and basin then connect to the mains and check for any leaks. (rectify if needed)

Tiling, Workshop-based learning
Tutor-led practical session showing/discussing the tools and equipment used to set out and fix wall tiles, using the correct techniques and how to set up your work area.

Be able to prepare surfaces for wall tiles
Be able to set out and fix wall tiles
Be able to finish wall tiles
Be able to set up and maintain a clean and safe working environment

Activities:
· Demonstration of the work to be carried out
· Select tools and PPE, set up safe area to work, use tools in conjunction with correct PPE. set out a wall, gauge tiles across horizontal and vertical lines to establish cuts around perimeter, set a lath/batten
· Establish start point, spread adhesive evenly, tile a wall
· Clean all work down, clean work area and tools

Floor coverings, Workshop-based learning
Tutor-led practical session showing/discussing the tools and equipment used to Carpet fitting, floor tilling, Laminate flooring. using the correct techniques and how to set up your work area.
